Announced 2 years ago, the “next gen” update for Fallout 4 will arrive this month, with a slew of technical and visual improvements.
All it takes is a TV series adaptation of Fallout to remind Bethesda of its past commitments. The studio had indeed announced a “next gen” update for the last opus of the saga in 2022 for the 25th anniversary of the franchise.
Two years later, this famous update now has a release date of April 25, with many improvements for the console and PC versions of Fallout 4.
Fallout 4 is finally modernizing
As was the case for Skyrim and its Anniversary Edition in 2021, Bethesda brings Fallout 4 into the current generation with this free update.
Thus, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S versions will finally be native with the addition of Quality and Performance modes to play either in 4K definition or in 60 frames per second. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will also receive stability improvements and fixes.
Improved PC versions and Steam Deck compatibility
For PC players, of whom there are still 20,000 playing it daily, the update will bring support for wide and ultra-wide screens (we imagine between 24 and 49 inches) with numerous fixes related to quests as well as Creation Kit to create mods.
No support for Nvidia’s DLSS 3 or AMD’s FSR 3 for image generation, however, we will still have to rely on the modder community for these features.
Bethesda also announced that Fallout 4 will then become Steam Deck Verified, promising a smooth experience on Valve’s portable PC console. The game will also arrive on the Epic Games Store for the occasion, joining Steam, GOG and Microsoft Store in the list of platforms on which it will be possible to play the game.
