The latest update introduces one more unexpected improvement

Although we all thought that Windows 10 was already taking its last breaths, and that it was not going to receive more changes and news, we were wrong. Microsoft is taking advantage of its last months of life to include a large number of changes and improvements in what has probably been one of its most beloved operating systems. And, of course, the latest cumulative patches were not going to be any less.

The April 2024 patches have arrived with a large number of unexpected changes and improvements for Windows 10. For example, we have been able to see changes within the Windows Settings menu, as well as new functions for the system lock screen, and for many other components. But, in addition, these patches have introduced a correction to the system that many of us have been waiting for for years.

Improvement in Windows search

The Windows file finder has been malfunctioning for a long time. This is very slow, and the results it offers are far from the user’s search intention. It is not known exactly when this problem appeared and when the patches stopped working as they should, but many have chosen to look for alternative programs rather than continue using the search engine included in the operating system.

Finally, it seems that Microsoft decided to admit the error, and has fixed it. As we can read in the notes for the latest Windows updates, Microsoft has fixed a series of errors that were causing file searches to work poorly in this operating system.

All Windows 10 users who install the patch KB5036979 through Windows Update you will be able to notice how, when using Windows Search, the results are displayed much more quickly, and personalized and much more precise results are achieved than those obtained until now. For example, if we search for the recycle bin from this menu, we now find the recycle bin instantly instead of getting other results from the system.

Other improvements from the latest update

But this correction is not the only thing that has come to us with this new patch. Microsoft has also taken the opportunity to include other new features in its already old operating system in order to make the end of life of its operating system as bearable as possible.

On the one hand, this update has also solved a very annoying problem that we encountered when trying to pair some Bluetooth devices to the system. And the possibility of enabling widgets on the operating system’s lock screen has also been included, something that significantly improves the appearance and visual aspect of the operating system.

And finally, Delta updates to Windows Update have also been included, which will reduce the size of the updates and speed up their installation.

The bad news for Windows 10

But not everything was going to be good news. And, as usual, Microsoft gives you a hard time when it updates its operating system. For example, this update has also removed the ability to use local accounts, forcing many users to sign in with a Microsoft Account in order to continue using the operating system. But it’s not the only bad news.

Announcements and notices have also begun to be included about the end of support for Windows 10 and the recommendation to upgrade to Windows 11. And, we remember, in just 16 months this system will pass away.
