The latest Windows 11 patch introduces more ads and problems to your PC

New optional updates Windows they are already here. Microsoft has released its new patches, not focused on security, with which it normally fixes problems and other types of errors to improve the user experience. Sometimes it even introduces new functions and features to the operating system. However, these latest patches have achieved just the opposite of what was expected.

This same weekend, Microsoft released its patch KB5036980 for all Windows 11 users. From the outset, these patches are quite controversial due, among other things, to the fact that they are the first to introduce new ads, in the form of recommended applications, within the start menu.

But it is not the only thing that this update introduces. And Microsoft has also left several unpleasant surprises for all users of its operating system. Surprises that, in the form of errors and problems, are making working with this operating system quite unpleasant.

Errors in the latest Windows 11 patches

It has only been a couple of days since the patch is available, as an option, for users and the Internet has already been filled with complaints and problems. One of the most striking errors that we find is the error 0x80070520 when trying to change the user’s profile photo from the Settings menu. This issue, logged within Microsoft’s Feedback Hub, is because for some reason Windows is unable to write to the AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsAccountPictures directory and therefore this error message appears.

But, if you thought this was going to be the only bug in this update, you were wrong. Some users have reported on Reddit that, after installing the patch, they have encountered a black screen of death in windows 11, which remained for several hours until, by magic, it disappeared. There are also users who claim that this patch left their Windows 11 completely unusable and that they have had to format the entire computer to make it work again.

Blue screens, crashes and other problems, typical of Windows updates, have also been present in these patches for the operating system.

Optional upgrade

Luckily, these are the second patches of the month, which are optional for all users. These patches appear within Windows Update and it is the user who must install them if they want. Microsoft takes advantage of this to test, on a limited number of computers, part of what will be its next mandatory updates, which will arrive on the second Tuesday of the following month.

Thanks to these optional updates, Microsoft now has great feedback, and time to study the problems reported by users and be able to solve them before the massive release of its next security patches.

Next May 14 will be the date on which the new security updates will arrive to Windows 11. And, in addition to correcting all the vulnerabilities detected by Microsoft, it will also include the changes of these optional updates for all users. Therefore, it is very important to detect, and correct, all these problems in time before the patch is released en masse and can wreak havoc.
