The new Prince of Persia shows up on video!

The Triple-I event lifted the veil on many independent games with promising ambitions. Among them, the next game from Ubisoft in collaboration with Evil Empire. As rumors predicted, the next game Prince of Persia will be a roguelite, and will be released on Steam in early access this year. The studios share with us the very first trailer for the game, which will arrive much sooner than we thought. Here are all the details you need to know about it.

Already in its announcement trailer, we feel the heritage of Evil Empire with Dead Cells. Between the colors which have nothing natural and the cartoon video, the title is a continuation of the studio’s works. However, he opts to keep this artistic direction in-game. No Pixel Art for The Rogue Prince of Persiawe remain in a colorful universe, with soft graphics despite its inherent violence and difficulty.

Prince of Persia in the roguelite era

Although it is a 2D opus like its predecessor The Lost Crown, this new title will be more like a roguelite rather than a metroidvania. The gameplay sequences show us frantic combat, and difficulty that is both personified and environmental.

In addition to its original artistic direction, we find all the elements of a good game Prince of Persia. In addition to 2D, the entire exploring part will be demanding and cryptic, while you can increase the hero’s performance by improving your skills or finding more powerful weapons. The protagonist will be offered a mystical Bola, an artifact allowing him to come back to life each time he falls… but not without compensation.

We do not forget thatAssassin’s Creed was originally a spin-off of the license Prince of Persia. We therefore see quite a few similarities between the two works, including the presence of parkour. Contrary to The Lost Crown who did not make it his spearhead, The Rogue Prince of Persia emphasizes movement, wall jumping and acrobatics. This adds style, certainly, but above all requires a certain mastery of gameplay.

Coming soon to PC

In terms of story, the new opus does not stray far from previous stories in the franchise either. The Rogue Prince of Persia centers on the invasion of Persia by the Huns. The whole story takes place in a fictional rendition of Ctesiphon, the capital of the Persian Empire. The big villain announced is Nogai, the leader of the Mongol army, while players will embody a unique character common to all: the Prince of Persia.

The good news is that we already have everything to project ourselves with this title. The Rogue Prince of Persia will begin its adventure in early access on Steam from May 14. This is the only platform (apart from Xbox Game Pass) to offer this kind of functionality, so you will have to wait for the game to be fully released before being able to test it on consoles. But Ubisoft is already promising a staggered launch to reassure those who don’t play on PC. Obviously, content updates will be frequent, so the state of the game is not final.
