We got the message, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the game of the century

At the beginning of April, the BAFTA Game Awards finally made their judgment on the best games of 2023. Apart from the fact that this decision was made rather late, we did not notice anything out of the ordinary. It’s once again Baldur’s Gate 3 who wins all the awards the most prestigious, including Game of the Year. And even if you already knew it, it’s good to remember it for the hundredth time.

5 additional rewards

Since December, all the award ceremonies have followed one another and looked the same. Baldur’s Gate 3 has achieved the feat of bringing together all players under the banner of the digital role-playing game with a title that is as beautiful as it is exciting. This sequel, although expected, surprised the entire industry, and even its studio. But it is clear that the challenge was met brilliantly. The BAFTA awards are just one more confirmation that Baldur’s Gate 3 is the game that will carve the year 2023 into history.

The game therefore won the honor of best game of the year, but also those which reward music, narration as well as public voting. Even actor Andrew Wincott won the award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role. We recall that he plays the character Raphael in the latest opus from Larian Studio. Despite all these rewards, we will have to say goodbye to the license since the developers recently announced that they liked this ending for Baldur’s Gate.

The other games shared the remaining prizes. Alan Wake 2 notably made a remarkable appearance by winning in the categories of artistic and audio production. On the independent games side, these are Venba, Hi-Fi Rush And Tchia who stood out from the competition. The first won the prize for best first game, the second was rewarded for its animation, and the last for its cultural and ecological message (the category beyond entertainment).

One more on the clock

The BAFTA Game Awards therefore do not teach us much, except that Baldur’s Gate 3 is a cool game. What a surprise ! This ceremony carries the total of distinctions at 17. It competes very closely with Elden Ring, already a title that has marked the history of video games in 2022. This year, no game seems to be able to compete with this level of impact, although we are not immune to a surprise. But according to the latest information, 2024 should be more focused on a pre-launch strategy for mid-gen consoles: Nintendo Switch 2, PS5 Pro and revisited Xbox Series X.
