A Hong Kong eBay seller sells RTX 2080 Ti cards with GDDR6 modules physically swapped from 1GB to 2GB chips, doubling VRAM to 22GB, for around $500.

The mod works by flipping strap resistors on the PCB from a low/low/low configuration to high/high/low, which tricks the BIOS into reporting the new capacity.

Memory bandwidth stays at the stock 616 GB/s — you get more room to fit a model, not more speed to run it.

The card is still Turing architecture from 2018: no native bf16, older tensor cores, and zero factory warranty on a hand-modified board.

It's a real option for fitting a 20B–34B model at Q4 that wouldn't fit on 12GB, but a used RTX 3090 at 24GB is the safer alternative if you can find one near the same price.
