Pi 6 isn't coming before early 2028. The Pi 5 is the board to design around until then.

It won't have an onboard NPU — AI acceleration stays on add-on HATs rather than the SoC.

Expect a faster CPU, more I/O and more DRAM bandwidth. No new ports, no onboard M.2.

The delay is tied directly to memory economics, not to engineering trouble.

An NPU costs die area and money on a board whose entire identity is being cheap. The overwhelming majority of Pi deployments are a Pi-hole, a print server, a sensor hub or a retro emulation box —…
