Raster (native 1440p): the RX 9070 is the faster card — reviewers put it 8–15% ahead of the 5070, and it's cheaper per frame. For pure raster, it's my pick.

Ray tracing: the RTX 5070 wins clearly — about 40% faster in Cyberpunk 2077 path tracing at 1440p — plus DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation, which AMD's FSR 4 doesn't yet match on game support.

VRAM: RX 9070 has 16GB, RTX 5070 has 12GB. That 4GB is the whole ballgame for local AI and for how long the card lasts me.

Price now: both launched at $549, but the surge hit NVIDIA harder — the 5070 is up ~36%, the RX 9070 sits around $650 street. I'd check a live tracker the day I buy.

My verdict: raster gamer or local-AI tinkerer → RX 9070 (more VRAM, more FPS/$). Ray-tracing/DLSS-first gamer → RTX 5070.
