GTA 6 on Xbox Series S: what's confirmed (and what isn't)

If you search for GTA 6 on Series S right now, you'll find confident answers about frame rates and resolution. None of them come from Rockstar or Microsoft. I'd rather give you a short page that's true than a long one that's guessed. Here's everything that's actually confirmed, what isn't, and what I'd watch for before launch.

What's confirmed (checked 25 Sep 2026)

• It's on Series S at launch. Rockstar's pre-order announcement: GTA 6 is "coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S."
• Xbox's own label. The Xbox Store listing says "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" and "Play with Xbox Series X|S", release date 11/19/2026.
• The boxed copy works on a disc-free console. Microsoft says the Series S is for "digital games only; console does not play physical discs." Rockstar says the physical GTA 6 contains "a download code inside the box," and retail listings read "Code in Box."
• Price and editions. $79.99 Standard / $99.99 Ultimate on the Xbox Store. Pre-orders before 20 November get the Vintage Vice City Pack.
• Pre-load. From 12 November for digital pre-orders, per Rockstar. The code-in-box version also arrives 12 November.

What isn't announced

Microsoft's Series S page does say the console supports "up to 120 FPS", with the footnote "requires supported content and display." That's a statement about the console's capability, not about GTA 6. I'd ignore it for this decision until Rockstar says something game-specific.

What Series S owners should watch for

1. Rockstar's technical details. If Rockstar publishes per-console info before launch, that's the moment to decide whether to upgrade. Not before.
2. Install size vs your storage. Series S comes in 512GB and 1TB versions, and some of that space is used by the system. GTA 6's size isn't announced. If you're on 512GB with a full drive, plan to clear space before pre-load opens on 12 November.
3. Pre-load timing. Digital and code-in-box copies can pre-load from 12 November. On a slow connection, that week matters more than any spec.

Should you buy a Series S for GTA 6?

• You already own a Series S: keep it. It's a confirmed launch platform. Buy the game, clear some storage, and wait for Rockstar's details before spending on an upgrade.
• You're buying new, on a strict budget: the Series S is the cheapest new console that will run GTA 6 at launch ($498.00). Just go in knowing its GTA 6 specifics are unannounced.
