A 128GB Strix Halo mini PC and a 128GB Mac Studio give an AI model about the same 96GB to work with. One costs $3,449 at Framework's US store, the other $5,099 at Apple's. Here is what the extra $1,650 buys, and what it doesn't.

I mapped every Mac mini and Mac Studio Apple sells today, all 17 configs, against 13 popular local AI models. If your biggest model is 27B-class, the math says a $1,299 Mac mini holds what a $3,099 Mac Studio holds.

$1,679.99 from Amazon today, against a $999 launch price and a $1,249.99 tracked low. The price record, what the extra $500 over a 5070 Ti buys on Nvidia's own spec sheet, and the numbers to buy at.

Skip the family-car verdict — the Scenic E-Tech is a great case study in how a modern EV is engineered. The dedicated platform, the efficiency-driven range, the heat pump, and what all of it teaches about judging any EV.

Forget 'beats Tesla.' The electric Megane and Scenic have two genuinely forward-looking features worth understanding: bidirectional charging that turns the car into a battery, and native Google software.

The fastest desktop chip ran ferociously hot — and sat at the sharp end of Raptor Lake's instability-and-degradation crisis. What actually went wrong, why owners offloaded it, and the lesson on halo chips.

Get excited about the breakthrough, stay skeptical about the timeline. A running shortlist of future tech that actually matters — batteries, EV design, local-AI hardware — with the hype filtered out.

Every year a headline promises a 2,000 km EV from a revolutionary battery. The real breakthrough — solid-state doubling energy density — is genuine; the number is mostly hype. The honest state of battery tech in 2026.

For local AI the decider is VRAM — and that's exactly where laptops are capped. Why a desktop (or a unified-memory mini-PC) usually wins, when a gaming laptop is still right, and how to choose.

A quality Q4 Scout wants ~62GB — which no single consumer GPU has, but a 96–128GB Strix Halo or Mac Studio holds whole. Why unified memory is Scout's natural home, and the one honest trade-off.

Scout is mixture-of-experts, so you're buying for 109B in memory, not 17B active. The honest GPU ladder — why a 32GB card is the sweet spot, when 24GB works, and when unified memory beats them all.

That impossibly low, red, wheel-hugging anime bike was fiction for 30 years. Smartech Motor's Rapid K-1988 got closest to making it real — and it only works because it's electric. What's real, what's still concept.

Biostar's Valkyrie boards were a real swing at the enthusiast crown — heavy VRMs, 10-layer PCBs, a bold gold-and-pink look. What they were, the specs that mattered, and whether an LGA1200 board makes sense now.

16GB of CUDA VRAM for $429 is the best budget on-ramp to local AI — but a narrow 128-bit bus and a brutal 2026 price surge mean it's only worth it near MSRP. My honest buy call, and what I'd get instead when it's marked up.

12GB of VRAM at ~$249, and the one card the 2026 price surge barely touched. Superb budget hardware for local LLMs — if you can live with Intel's software tax. My honest take on who should buy one.

A used RTX 3090 gives you 24GB for ~$700–1,000 and runs the same models as cards costing 2–6x more. My honest used-market value pick for local AI — with the buying risks spelled out and current prices cited.

AI demand spiked consumer GPU prices into a mid-2026 peak — and they're cooling off it now, unevenly. The current numbers vs MSRP, why the RTX 5090 won't budge, and what's actually worth buying.

Same $549 launch price, genuinely different cards — and 2026's price surge pulled them apart. The RX 9070 wins raster and VRAM; the RTX 5070 wins ray tracing and DLSS 4. Here's how I'd choose for gaming and local AI.
