"GTA 6 PS5 vs PS5 Pro" is one of the most-searched GTA questions right now. The autocomplete is full of "fps" and "performance". Here's the problem: Rockstar hasn't published any. Every frame-rate number you've seen for GTA 6 on either console comes from somewhere other than Rockstar. So instead of guessing, this page does the two things I can do honestly. It explains what Sony's "Pro Enhanced" label actually promises, and it prices the gap.

What "PS5 Pro Enhanced" means, in Sony's words
GTA 6's PlayStation.com page lists it for "PS5 and PS5 Pro" with the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label. Sony's PS5 Pro page defines the category as games "enhanced with the power of PS5 Pro for improved visuals and performance," and describes the toolbox developers can use:
PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution): "super sharp image clarity on your 4K TV using AI-enhanced resolution."
Frame rates: "higher and more consistent frame rates… with support for 60Hz and 120Hz displays."
Advanced ray tracing: "ray-traced reflections, shadows, and high-quality global illumination."
The fine print: every one of those claims carries an asterisk. The developer decides which features to use, and "results will vary by title."
So the label guarantees that Rockstar made a Pro-specific version. It doesn't tell you whether that means higher frame rates, sharper image quality, more ray tracing, or some mix. Sony also lists titles that support its newer "Enhanced PSSR" setting. GTA 6 wasn't on that list when I checked, which isn't surprising for an unreleased game, but it's another thing that's genuinely unknown.

What the Pro costs over a PS5 Digital

The one concrete, published difference that matters for GTA 6 is storage. The Pro ships with 2TB, against 825GB on the Digital Edition. Rockstar hasn't published GTA 6's install size, but if you keep several big games installed, that gap is real. Wi-Fi 7 support is the other Pro spec Sony lists. And don't worry about the disc drive either way: Rockstar says GTA 6's boxed copy is a download code.
Who should buy which
You want GTA 6 on 19 November at a sensible price: a PS5 Digital Edition ($542.99 at Amazon.com today). It's a launch platform, and it's the cheapest way in.
You have a 4K TV and want the best version: a PS5 Pro, but at Sony's $899. Sony pitches PSSR at 4K TVs, so that's where the Pro's image-quality features make the most sense on paper.
Your TV is 1080p: I'd skip the Pro for now. Sony's own PSSR pitch is about 4K clarity, and the rest is unannounced for GTA 6.
You already own a PS5: keep it. Upgrading to a Pro for GTA 6 is a $900 bet on enhancements nobody's described. Wait for Rockstar's details, or for launch.
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (825GB)
The sane-price route to GTA 6 on day one: $542.99 sold by Amazon.com on 25 Sep 2026 (Sony: $599). GTA 6's boxed copy is a download code, so the missing disc drive doesn't matter.
Buy the standard PS5 unless you have a 4K TV and can get a Pro at Sony's $899. "PS5 Pro Enhanced" is a real label, but Rockstar hasn't told anyone what it means for GTA 6. Paying $1,299.49 to a reseller, or $300+ over a PS5, for an unannounced upgrade is the one move I'd talk you out of. If you're patient, wait for Rockstar's own details before deciding.
Best for: Anyone choosing between a PS5 and a PS5 Pro with GTA 6 as the reason.

$79.99 from Amazon.com. Sony lists one PS5 product for both PS5 and PS5 Pro. It delivers 12 November for pre-loading, and pre-orders get the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Rockstar hasn't announced frame rates for any console. Sony labels GTA 6 "PS5 Pro Enhanced", and Sony's PS5 Pro page says enhanced games can target higher frame rates, sharper 4K image quality via PSSR, or better ray tracing, with results varying by title. Which of those GTA 6 uses isn't announced.
Is the PS5 Pro worth it for GTA 6?
