Rockstar hasn't published a single official spec, and the PC version isn't landing anytime soon — here's what the predictions actually say, and why I wouldn't buy a GPU for this specific game yet.
Type "GTA 6 PC requirements" into Google right now and you'll get a dozen confident-looking spec sheets — minimum GPU, recommended GPU, VRAM targets, laid out like Rockstar handed someone a press kit. Rockstar didn't. As of July 2026, there is no official PC system requirements list for Grand Theft Auto VI, and there isn't going to be a PC version anytime soon. Everything you're about to read, including this, is a prediction. The difference is I actually put two of the most-cited prediction sources side by side, and they don't agree on nearly as much as their headlines suggest.
The one date that's actually real
GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. That part is confirmed, official, and not moving. The PC version is a separate question entirely, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has already told the press why it isn't coming alongside the console launch: "Rockstar always starts on console because I think, with regard to a release like that, you're judged by serving the core." That's a strategy statement, not an engineering excuse — Rockstar is choosing to make console players wait less, which means PC players wait more. We've already covered how tight Rockstar's own release runway is looking through the rest of 2026; this is the same pattern playing out on a longer timeline.
How long PC players actually waited last time
Sept 17, 2013
GTA 5 launches on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Apr 14, 2015
GTA 5 finally reaches PC — about 19 months later.
Nov 19, 2026
GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Late 2027 (predicted)
The earliest window most outlets expect for a PC version, based on the GTA 5 gap.
2028 (possible)
Some estimates push the PC release even later, citing the same historical pattern.
What the prediction sites actually say — and where they split
Every prediction site is working from the same raw materials: the console hardware Rockstar has to support, whatever the RAGE 9 engine appears to demand in trailer footage, and reports that Rockstar's own playtest builds have been running on RTX 2080 Super hardware. From that, two of the most detailed prediction pages — PCGameBenchmark and Eneba's hub — arrive at genuinely different numbers, not just different phrasing of the same numbers.

That gap between "RTX 3060" and "RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT" at the recommended tier isn't a rounding error — it's two cards separated by roughly two hardware generations and a real jump in native performance. If two sites that both did the homework can't converge on a single answer, treat any single number you read elsewhere as a guess with good production values, not a leak.

The VRAM number that matters more than any single GPU model
GPU model names are the least reliable part of any of these predictions, because they depend on guessing exactly how Rockstar's engine scales, and on pricing and availability two years out. VRAM is more predictable, because consoles set a real floor publishers can't undercut without cutting content. The consistent range across predictions is an 8GB minimum, 12GB as the number that actually lets you relax, and 16GB or more if you want headroom for a 4K push or whatever mod scene grows around this game the way one grew around GTA 5. If you're shopping today for 1440p gaming in general, not GTA 6 specifically, our current breakdown of the RTX 5070 versus the RX 9070 XT is the more useful read.
1
Buy for today's games, not a 2027-or-later release — check what you already play at your target resolution.
2
If you're gaming at 1440p, our current pick between the RTX 5070 and RX 9070 XT still holds up.
3
Treat every "GTA 6 requirements" list — including this one — as an estimate until Rockstar publishes a real spec sheet.
4
Watch for a real PC announcement around or after the November 19, 2026 console launch — that's when actual information starts.
GTA 6 PC questions, answered honestly
What GPU do I need for GTA 6?
Nobody knows yet — Rockstar hasn't published official specs. Predictions cluster around a GTX 1660/RTX 2060-class minimum and an RTX 4070-class recommendation, but two of the most-cited prediction sites disagree by a full tier on both ends.
When is GTA 6 coming to PC?
There's no confirmed date. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026; based on GTA 5's roughly 19-month console-to-PC gap, most estimates put the PC version in late 2027, with some pushing into 2028.
Why is Rockstar delaying the PC version?
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said Rockstar prioritizes console because that's where a launch is judged on serving "the core" audience first. It's a stated strategy, not a technical holdup.
How much VRAM will GTA 6 need?
The safest working number across predictions is an 8GB floor, 12GB for comfortable 1440p, and 16GB or more if you want headroom for 4K or mods once those exist.
Should I upgrade my GPU now for GTA 6?
Only if you'd upgrade anyway for games you're playing today. The PC version is a minimum of a year out, and the GPU market will look different by the time it lands.
I'll update every number on this page the moment Rockstar publishes something official — until then, bookmark it for the actual release date, not the specs. Every claim above has a source next to it for a reason: right now, that's all any of us actually have.
