Is Semrush free? Yes, with tight limits. Semrush has a free plan that needs no credit card. It includes one demo project and 10 reports a day across its main tools, which is enough to check your own site and a few competitors, not to run SEO for a business. Paid plans start at $139 a month and come with a 7-day free trial that turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel. Checked 31 October 2026 on Semrush's own pages.
What the free Semrush plan includes
Semrush's pricing page lists the free plan at "$0 /mo" and describes it as "For trying out the platform. No credit card required." Its knowledge base says it "Includes 1 demo project, 10 reports per day across all vital tools, and a limited set of AI Visibility features."
Semrush's own blog breaks the daily allowance down by tool:

For a small business that's enough to look up your own domain, check a few competitors and spot obvious site problems on your most important pages. It isn't enough to track the keywords a store actually sells on, or to audit a full product catalogue: a Shopify store with 300 products has far more than 100 URLs.
The 7-day free trial
Semrush's paid plans come with a free trial, and its knowledge base says it plainly: "After your 7-day trial, your account converts to the plan you selected unless you cancel." A few rules that catch people out:
It turns into a paid plan. Semrush's cancellation page says that if you don't cancel before the trial ends, "the trial will automatically convert to a paid subscription."
One trial per person. Its billing FAQ says "you can use the option to get a free trial only once", and later attempts lead to a paid monthly plan.
No exports. "Exporting data is disabled during the trial period."
A $1 check on your card. When you add a card, Semrush says "$1 or its equivalent will be debited from the card" to check it, and that this authorization "is not a charge" and lapses from your statement.
How to cancel the trial in time
Semrush's cancellation steps, from its knowledge base:
While logged in, open the cancellation form from your subscription info and answer every question. You can cancel all subscriptions or just one toolkit.
Semrush emails you a confirmation link that is "valid for 24 hours". Click it. Semrush is explicit: "If you do not confirm your cancellation within 24 hours, it will not be processed, and billing will continue."
After cancelling, "you will still be able to access Semrush on a free-level account."
So leave a full day before the trial ends, not an hour.
Refunds: why the monthly plan is the risky one
Semrush's refund policy is narrow. It offers "a one-time, 7-day money-back guarantee" only for first purchases "where the subscription term committed to is twelve months or greater", plus first add-on purchases. The request has to be in writing "within 7 calendar days". And it states: "refunds are not available for month-to-month subscriptions."
That means a trial that rolls into a monthly plan can't be refunded. If you're unsure, cancel the trial and come back later.

Is the free plan enough for a small business?
For a one-off check, yes. For ongoing SEO, usually not. The free plan shows where you stand today, but 10 tracked keywords and a 100-URL audit don't cover the work of growing a store or a local business: tracking the searches that bring customers, fixing site issues across every page and watching competitors over time.
Yes, on a limited free plan with no credit card required. It includes 1 demo project and 10 reports a day across Semrush's main tools, 10 tracked keywords and a site audit of up to 100 URLs a month.
How long is the Semrush free trial?
7 days on most plans and toolkits, per Semrush's knowledge base. Its Agency Partners Platform add-on has a 14-day trial.
Does the Semrush trial charge you automatically?
Yes. Semrush says the trial converts to the plan you selected unless you cancel before it ends.
Can I get a refund from Semrush?
Only within 7 calendar days of a first annual (12-month or longer) purchase or a first add-on purchase. Semrush's refund policy says refunds are not available for month-to-month subscriptions.
Do I keep access after cancelling?
Yes, on the free plan. Semrush says you can still use a free-level account after cancelling a subscription or trial.
