Both cards have 16GB, so both run the same local models. The 5070 Ti runs them roughly twice as fast. Here is when that speed is worth the money, with prices checked in October 2026.
Both cards have 16GB of VRAM, so they run the same local AI models. The RTX 5070 Ti is about twice as fast at running them. NVIDIA lists 448 GB/s of memory bandwidth for the 5060 Ti and 896 GB/s for the 5070 Ti. On llama.cpp's public scoreboard, the 5070 Ti generated text 1.95 times faster. Buy the 5060 Ti for the lower price and power draw. Buy the 5070 Ti for speed.
Do the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and 5070 Ti run the same AI models?
Yes. What you can run locally is set by VRAM, and both cards have 16GB. Models that fit on one fit on the other at the same quantization and context. That covers 7B to 14B models comfortably and gpt-oss-20b, which runs on a 16GB card. A dense 30B model at Q4 does not fit fully on either one.
The arithmetic for that last point: a 30-billion-parameter model at Q4_K_M (about 4.85 bits per weight) needs roughly 18 GB for weights alone, before any context. Our full list of what a 16GB card runs applies to both cards, and the VRAM calculator checks any model and context length.

How much faster is the RTX 5070 Ti for AI?
About twice as fast, on both halves of the job. Generating a reply is limited by memory bandwidth, and the 5070 Ti has double. Reading your prompt is limited by compute, and it has nearly double the cores. llama.cpp's community scoreboard shows exactly that pattern on its standard test model.

These runs come from two different contributors on the llama.cpp CUDA scoreboard, on one small model. Bigger models run slower on both cards, but the ratio tracks the 2x bandwidth gap. What does 93 tokens a second feel like? Text appears far faster than you can read it, so for one person chatting with a 7B model the 5060 Ti is plenty. The gap starts to matter with bigger models, long prompts, coding agents and anything that runs in a loop.

Which is better value for AI?
At MSRP, the RTX 5070 Ti. It costs 1.75 times as much ($749 vs $429) and runs about 1.95 times as fast, so you get more speed per dollar. The 5060 Ti wins on the absolute price floor, on power and heat, and as a building block for two cards. At today's shelf prices, the honest answer depends on what you can find.
On 4 October 2026, Best Buy's cheapest RTX 5070 Ti was $1,189.99, and most RTX 5060 Ti listings there showed as unavailable. If a 5060 Ti 16GB is in stock near its $429 MSRP, it is the cheapest way into 16GB of CUDA. If it is priced close to a 5070 Ti, the 5070 Ti is the better buy. We tracked one month when the 5060 Ti 16GB cost more than an RTX 5070, so check before you assume.

So which should you buy?
Buy the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB if you want the cheapest 16GB CUDA card, mostly chat with small models, or plan a two-card 32GB build. Our dual RTX 5060 Ti guide covers that route. Buy the RTX 5070 Ti if you run coding agents, long prompts or 14B to 20B models daily, and the speed will save you time. If you need 24GB or more, neither card is the answer: compare a used RTX 3090 against the 5060 Ti instead.
Quick answers
Is the RTX 5070 Ti twice as fast as the 5060 Ti for AI?
Close to it. On llama.cpp's CUDA scoreboard (Llama 2 7B Q4_0, flash attention on), the 5070 Ti generated 182.43 tokens/s against 93.46, which is 1.95x, and processed prompts 2.01x faster. That matches its doubled memory bandwidth, 896 vs 448 GB/s.
Do the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and 5070 Ti run the same AI models?
Yes. Both have 16GB of VRAM, so the same models fit at the same quantization and context. The 5070 Ti only runs them faster.
Which is better value for local AI, the 5060 Ti or the 5070 Ti?
At MSRP, the 5070 Ti gives more speed per dollar: 1.75x the price for about 1.95x the speed. The 5060 Ti is the cheaper card, uses 180 W instead of 300 W, and suits two-card builds. At shelf prices, compare what is actually in stock.
Can either card run a 30B model?
Not fully on the GPU at Q4. A dense 30B model needs about 18 GB for weights alone. Mixture-of-experts models such as 30B-A3B can run with part of the model offloaded to system RAM, more slowly.
Is the 5060 Ti 8GB the same for AI?
No. The 8GB version runs a much smaller set of models. For local AI, only the 16GB 5060 Ti belongs in this comparison.
