Nvidia's new RTX 5050 is barely faster than a GPU from 2021 — skip it

RTX 5050: 2,560 CUDA cores, 8GB GDDR6, 128-bit bus, 130W TDP, $249 MSRP — but street price is running $275-309 on Amazon and Newegg as of early August 2026.

Independent testing puts it only about 13% faster than the RTX 3060, a card from October 2021 — one of the smallest generational jumps in Nvidia's budget-tier history.

A used RTX 3070 (~$280, same 8GB VRAM) delivers roughly 35-40% better real-world performance for about the same money, with no warranty.

Measured 1080p frame rates: 86 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra + DLSS 4), 93 fps in Black Myth: Wukong (High + DLSS), 188 fps in Valorant (High).

8GB of VRAM is the same ceiling the RTX 3050 shipped with four years earlier — it's not a real local-AI card at any meaningful model size.

Skip it unless the 130W power budget or a full warranty is the deciding factor for your specific build. For almost everyone else — gamers and local-AI tinkerers alike — the money buys more…
