Gemini's free tier makes images with Nano Banana 2, and Google's own table lists Nano Banana Pro for paying plans. Where Pro is free for a week, what it costs per image, and which Nano Banana sites aren't Google.

Is Nano Banana Pro free? Not on Google's free tier today. Nano Banana Pro is Google's Gemini 3 Pro Image model. Google's Gemini help table, read on 30 October 2026, lists image generation with Nano Banana 2 for people with no Google AI plan, and Nano Banana Pro only for the Plus, Pro and Ultra plans. So a free Gemini account makes images with Nano Banana 2, the faster sibling, not Pro. The closest thing to free Nano Banana Pro is a 7-day Unlimited window on some paid Higgsfield plans, and that still needs a paid plan.
Official free ways to use Nano Banana Pro
There's one official free door into Google's image models: the Gemini app with no paid plan. Here's what Google's own pages say it gets you.
Free Gemini makes images with Nano Banana 2. Google's Gemini Apps limits page (read 30 October 2026) has a tick for "Image generation with Nano Banana 2" in every column: no AI plan, AI Plus, AI Pro and AI Ultra. Nano Banana 2 is Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, Google's faster image model.
Nano Banana Pro is marked for paid plans. The same table's "Redo images with Nano Banana Pro" row is ticked for AI Plus, AI Pro and AI Ultra. The no-plan column shows a different icon, not a tick, and the page doesn't explain it.
The launch-day free quota. Google's launch post (20 November 2025) said: "Our free-tier users will receive limited free quotas, after which they will revert to the original Nano Banana model." That was the launch offer. Today's help table no longer lists Pro for people without a plan, so check the model shown under your own image before assuming it's Pro.
How much you can make on free. The help page gives no image-specific numbers. It says no-plan users get "Standard limits", Plus gets "2x higher than standard limits" and Pro "4x higher", and that limits "refresh every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit."
What you give up on free
Free Gemini images come from Nano Banana 2, not Pro. Google pitched Pro on its text and detail, so if you need legible text on a poster or a sharp diagram, the free tier isn't the same tool. For most quick edits Nano Banana 2 is fine. If you're choosing between Nano Banana and Higgsfield's own Soul model for a specific job, we compare them in Higgsfield Soul vs Nano Banana.
Paid routes compared
Two legitimate ways to pay for Nano Banana Pro: a Google AI plan, or a platform that licenses Google's model next to others. Prices below are dated and sourced; both change often.
Google's own plans
Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra all include Nano Banana Pro in the Gemini app, per the same help table, with usage rising from "2x higher than standard limits" on Plus to "4x" on Pro and more on Ultra. Google's help page doesn't list prices, so check Google's plan page in your country before you subscribe.
Nano Banana Pro inside Higgsfield
Higgsfield is a separate platform that runs Nano Banana Pro alongside Soul, GPT Image, Seedream and video models under one credit plan. Its pricing page compare table (read 30 October 2026) lists Nano Banana Pro at 2 credits an image and Nano Banana Pro 4K at 4 credits. The generator showed 2 credits at 1K the same day.

Higgsfield's plan cards translate the credits into images: 135 Nano Banana Pro generations on Starter, 600 on Plus and 1,500 on Ultra. On monthly Plus a credit works out to about $0.049, so one 2-credit image is roughly $0.10. That's our arithmetic.
Read the Unlimited line carefully. Higgsfield's Unlimited help article says the period "runs from when the access was activated and doesn't restart at renewal", runs in the standard queue, and "applies only on higgsfield.ai: outside it, generations always deduct credits." It's a week, once, not a free model. The full rules are in Higgsfield Unlimited explained.
Which is cheaper depends on how you work. If you mostly chat in Gemini and want Pro now and then, a Google AI plan is the direct route. If you also want Soul, GPT Image, Seedream or video models in one place, one Higgsfield plan can cover them. It isn't automatically cheaper per image. Higgsfield credits explained shows how its credits work.
Higgsfield's free account doesn't change the picture. Its plans help article says the free tier "doesn't include credits" and that access "is limited to a small set of models", and the compare table lists 0 credits for Free. Higgsfield doesn't name those models, and Nano Banana Pro costs credits, so we can't confirm a free Higgsfield account can run it.
Official site vs look-alike sites
Search "nano banana pro free" and Google's own pages barely show. On 30 October 2026 Bing's top organic results were nanobanana.com and playgroundai.com, and the ads above them included davinci.ai (headlined "Google Nano Banana Pro AI") and chatday.ai ("Nano Banana Free – No Account"). None of these is Google. nanobanana.com uses the model's name but isn't Google's site; Playground AI is a separate company's app. We aren't saying what these sites do with your money or data; we're saying they aren't Google.
How to spot the real one:
Check the domain. Google's consumer app for Nano Banana is Gemini, at gemini.google.com. "Nano Banana" is Google's nickname for its image models, not a separate website Google runs.
Be wary of "free unlimited Nano Banana Pro". Google's own table doesn't list Pro for people without a plan. A site promising unlimited free Pro isn't describing Google's offer.
Pay only where the account lives. Credits bought on a third-party site are that site's credits, not a Google plan. If a platform licenses the model, like Higgsfield, it says so and shows the price per image before you generate.
Frequently asked
Is Nano Banana Pro free?
Not on Google's free tier today. Google's Gemini help table (read 30 Oct 2026) lists image generation with Nano Banana 2 for people with no plan, and Nano Banana Pro for Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra. At launch in November 2025 Google gave free users a limited Pro quota, but the current table doesn't list it.
Is Nano Banana 2 free?
Yes, within limits. Google's Gemini help table ticks "Image generation with Nano Banana 2" for every plan, including no plan, with "Standard limits" that refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap. Nano Banana 2 is Gemini 3.1 Flash Image.
How much does Nano Banana Pro cost on Higgsfield?
2 credits an image, or 4 at 4K, per Higgsfield's pricing page on 30 Oct 2026. On monthly Plus ($59 for 1,200 credits) that's about $0.10 an image. Yearly Plus and both Ultra plans list Nano Banana Pro as 7-day Unlimited at 2K; monthly Plus says "On annual plan only".
Is Higgsfield's 7-day Unlimited Nano Banana Pro free?
No. It comes with a paid plan, starts when the access is activated, doesn't restart at renewal and works only on higgsfield.ai. After the 7 days each image costs credits again.
Is nanobanana.com Google's official site?
No. Google's app for Nano Banana is Gemini, at gemini.google.com. nanobanana.com uses the model's name but isn't run by Google, and neither are the "free Nano Banana" ads above Bing's results.
The short version: free Gemini gives you Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro comes with a Google AI plan, and on Higgsfield it's 2 credits an image with a one-off 7-day Unlimited window on yearly Plus and Ultra. Weighing Higgsfield's own free tier too? See is Higgsfield free.
