Is Seedream free? Yes, about 20 Lite images a day on Dreamina. Pro is unclear

ByteDance's Seedream is free only through Dreamina's daily credits, and Dreamina's own pages disagree on whether those credits reach Seedream 5.0 Pro. What each official route gives free, what an image costs when it doesn't, the watermark and commercial-use rules, and which Seedream sites aren't ByteDance.

Is Seedream free? Yes, in small amounts, on Dreamina. Seedream is ByteDance's family of image models, and ByteDance's research site lists Seedream 5.0 Pro as the current one. The free route is Dreamina, ByteDance's AI studio under the CapCut name: US free accounts get 120 credits a day, and Dreamina's cost guide names Seedream 5.0 Lite as the Seedream model those credits cover. In Dreamina's own free-account test, one 2K Lite image used 6 credits, so a free day buys about 20 (our arithmetic). Whether the free credits reach Seedream 5.0 Pro is unclear, because Dreamina's own pages disagree. The API and Higgsfield charge for every image. Checked on ByteDance's, Dreamina's, BytePlus's and Higgsfield's own pages on November 7, 2026.

Which Seedream is the current one?

Seedream 5.0 Pro, launched on July 8, 2026. It's the image model ByteDance Seed, ByteDance's AI research team, lists on its models page, with two places to use it: Dreamina, and BytePlus, ByteDance's API platform. The rest of the family is still on sale next to it.

  • Seedream 5.0 Pro: the flagship. Seed's launch post pitches it on dense infographics and text, editing by marking up an image, layer separation, and realistic light and skin. The same post says finer text rendering and pixel-level editing consistency still have room to improve. BytePlus lists it as "Dola Seedream 5.0 Pro".
  • Seedream 5.0 Flash and 5.0 Lite: the cheaper 5.0 models. Both are on the BytePlus API and Higgsfield; Dreamina lists Lite.
  • Seedream 4.5 and 4.0: older models, still sold on BytePlus and Higgsfield.
  • Seedream 5.5: Dreamina has a Seedream 5.5 page, dated October 26, 2026, that tells readers to "choose Seedream 5.5 when available". ByteDance Seed's site, the BytePlus price list and Higgsfield's model menu didn't list a 5.5 on November 7.

Seedream or Seedance? They come from the same ByteDance team, but Seedream makes images and Seedance makes video, and each has its own credit price. For the video model, see is Seedance free.

Where can you use Seedream for free?

On Dreamina, where US free accounts get 120 credits a day. Dreamina's free-credits guide, dated October 22, 2026, says daily allowances vary outside the US and names Seedream 5.0 Lite and Nano Banana among the image models free accounts can use. ByteDance Seed's own models page sends people to Dreamina to try Seedream 5.0 Pro. The open question is whether those free credits cover Pro, and Dreamina answers it two ways.

Screenshot of Dreamina's Seedream 5.0 Pro page, FAQ section: Is Seedream 5.0 Pro free to use in Dreamina? Yes, Seedream 5.0 Pro can be used in Dreamina, and users can access it through the free daily credits provided to each account; heavy usage or extended access may depend on additional plan limits within the platform. The answer is outlined

  • Dreamina's Seedream 5.0 Pro page says yes. Its FAQ says users can "access it through the free daily credits provided to each account", adding that heavy use may depend on plan limits.
  • Dreamina's cost guide says Lite. Its plan table, dated October 22, 2026, gives free accounts Seedance 2.0 for video and Seedream 5.0 Lite for images, and adds that "premium-model access is separate". The free-credits guide lists the same Seedream model.

Two Dreamina pages name Seedream 5.0 Lite, not Pro, for free accounts, and one says Pro is included. We didn't sign in to Dreamina, so we can't settle it here, and any article that claims to is guessing. Dreamina's cost guide gives the way to find out: check the selected model's credit quote before each step. Pick Seedream 5.0 Pro, read the quote, and compare it with your balance.

How many free Seedream images is that?

About 20 Lite images a day at 2K, if each costs what Dreamina's own test did. The cost guide describes a free-account session on October 21 in which one Seedream 5.0 Lite image (16:9, 2K, one output, no reference images) used 6 credits. 120 ÷ 6 = 20, by our arithmetic. Dreamina doesn't publish a credit price for a Seedream 5.0 Pro image, so there's no way to do the same sum for Pro.

From Dreamina's Seedream 5.0 Pro page, free-credits guide and cost guide, read November 7, 2026. We didn't sign in to Dreamina.

What Dreamina costs when the free credits run out

Dreamina Basic is $15 a month for 1,575 credits, per both of Dreamina's October 22 guides, and paid plans add watermark-free downloads and a faster queue. Dreamina's site banner on November 7 still advertised a first month for $0.29, and its pricing page in US dollars says that's Basic, paid by card or PayPal, then $15 a month; it's a limited-time offer. At 6 credits a Lite image, 1,575 credits come to about 260 Lite images a month (our arithmetic). Dreamina doesn't publish what a Seedream 5.0 Pro image costs in credits, so read the quote in the app before you pay for Pro.

Is Seedream free in CapCut?

You can start free, but CapCut doesn't say how far it goes. CapCut's AI image generator names its two models as Seedream 5.0 by ByteDance and Nano Banana Pro by Google, without saying which Seedream 5.0 version. CapCut's own guide to its free tier says "CapCut does not publish a hard free credit count" and makes no unconditional no-watermark promise. On the plan cards, monthly AI credits appear only on the paid plans.

Is the Seedream API free?

No, not per image, and BytePlus isn't available in the US. ByteDance sells Seedream to developers through BytePlus ModelArk, and its pricing page charges for every output image.

Screenshot of BytePlus ModelArk's pricing page, image generation models table: dola-seedream-5-0-pro-260628 with the first input image free and later ones $0.003, single-image output at up to 2.61 million pixels (1.5K or lower) $0.045 and more than 2.61 million pixels (higher than 1.5K) $0.09, both outlined, and layer decomposition at $0.0225 and $0.045.
BytePlus ModelArk pricing (docs.byteplus.com), read November 7, 2026. Free in the input column means the reference images you upload; every output image is billed. Outline ours. · Screenshot of docs.byteplus.com by aliteq
  • The prices. Seedream 5.0 Pro costs $0.045 per image up to 2.61 million pixels (1.5K or lower) and $0.09 above that. Seedream 5.0 Flash is $0.018, 5.0 Lite $0.035, 4.5 $0.04 and 4.0 $0.03. Images that aren't produced because of content moderation aren't billed.
  • Use 1.5K, not 1K. BytePlus's Seedream 5.0 Pro tutorial says 1.5K costs the same as 1K and gives better quality. Higgsfield also charges the same for both.
  • No free images. BytePlus's free trial for new users offsets inference fees "based on tokens", and Seedream is billed per image. The only free entries in the Seedream rows are the reference images you upload.
  • First-purchase packs. BytePlus's Seedream product page offered new customers 310 Seedream 5.0 Pro images for $6.99, 800 for $24.99 or 1,555 for $49.99, each valid for 30 days. The smallest pack works out to about 2.3 cents an image (our arithmetic); the card doesn't say at what resolution.
  • Not in the US. BytePlus's availability list, last updated April 21, 2026, includes Canada and the UK but not the United States, India or mainland China.

Does the Seedream API add a watermark?

Yes, unless you switch it off. BytePlus's API reference lists the watermark setting as on by default, and its tutorial says that setting adds an "AI-generated" watermark in the lower-right corner of the image. Developers can set it to false.

Is Seedream free on Higgsfield?

No. Higgsfield is a separate platform that offers ByteDance's Seedream models next to Nano Banana, GPT Image and its own Soul. Higgsfield's plans help article says you can generate without a paid plan, but that free access "doesn't include credits", and every Seedream model costs credits on the Generate button. What new accounts actually receive is in our free Higgsfield credits check.

We read the credit price on Higgsfield's image page signed out, with nothing generated, on November 7, 2026:

What that is in dollars depends on the plan. Higgsfield's plans on November 7 were Starter at $19 for 270 credits, Plus at $59 monthly or $47 a month billed yearly for 1,200, and Ultra at $129 monthly or $99 a month billed yearly for 3,000.

Higgsfield Starterabout $0.18

$19 for 270 credits

Higgsfield Plus, monthlyabout $0.12

Higgsfield Plus, billed yearlyabout $0.10
BytePlus API, list price$0.09

Not available in the US

Higgsfield Ultra, billed yearlyabout $0.08

$99 a month for 3,000 credits

The Higgsfield figures assume you spend every credit at the discounted 2.5-credit price; at the listed 3 credits each is a fifth higher. At 1.5K the order holds: about $0.04 an image on Ultra billed yearly against BytePlus's $0.045. They're our arithmetic, not a price list, and Higgsfield credits explained shows how the credits work.

The 7-day Unlimited window

Higgsfield's Plus and Ultra plan cards listed 7 days of Unlimited Seedream 5.0 Pro at 2K on both monthly and annual billing on November 7; Starter lists none. During that week, Seedream 5.0 Pro generations don't use credits. The fine print says Unlimited models are "accessible only via higgsfield.ai", not on its MCP, CLI, Canvas or Supercomputer, and Higgsfield's Unlimited help article says those generations run in the standard queue rather than the priority one. That day the pricing page also opened with a sign-up offer: 7 days of Unlimited GPT Image 2.6, Seedream 5.0 Pro and Nano Banana Pro on Ultra, with a 30% discount. Offers like that change by the week, and Higgsfield Unlimited explained has the rules.

Do free Seedream images have a watermark?

On Dreamina and on a free Higgsfield account, yes. On the API it's a setting.

  • Dreamina: its free-credits guide says paid plans add watermark-free downloads, and its pricing page lists removing the Dreamina watermark as a paid benefit. The file from Dreamina's own free-account test, a 2,560 × 1,440 JPEG, kept visible AI and Dreamina markings.
  • BytePlus API: an "AI-generated" mark in the lower-right corner by default, which developers can turn off.
  • Higgsfield: its watermark help article says "On a free account, every generation carries a Higgsfield watermark." Paid plans don't add a visible one, though Higgsfield says it may embed invisible markers that identify content as AI-made. More in the Higgsfield watermark guide.
  • CapCut: no unconditional promise of watermark-free images, per its free-tier guide.

Can you use free Seedream images commercially?

On Dreamina's free tier, not without checking, because Dreamina's own pages disagree.

  • Dreamina's terms (an agreement with Bytedance Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, last updated January 22, 2026) say its services are "generally provided for private, non-commercial use". The same terms say you own your inputs and outputs if you follow them.
  • Dreamina's Seedream 5.0 Lite page says in its FAQ that Lite images "can be used for commercial purposes", as long as you follow Dreamina's guidelines and terms.
  • Dreamina's pricing page says "Commercial-use eligibility depends on the applicable Dreamina terms" and on the models and assets involved.

Until Dreamina makes those agree, treat free Dreamina images as fine for testing and personal use, not for a client job or an ad. On Higgsfield, its help center says Higgsfield "does not restrict the commercial use of outputs", for every user, but free outputs carry the watermark. We go through the details in Higgsfield commercial use.

Is seedream.ai the official Seedream site?

No. ByteDance's Seedream pages are on seed.bytedance.com, and the official ways in are Dreamina, CapCut and BytePlus. Two of the domains that use the Seedream name say on their own pages that they're independent, and a third sells a version ByteDance's own site doesn't list. That matters because they show up where people look: when we asked ChatGPT "is seedream free" on November 7, 2026, its answer cited seedream.ai and getseedream.com among its sources. Here's what each says about itself:

  • seedream.ai says on its home page that it "is an independent product and is not affiliated with any third-party AI providers". Its Terms of Service don't name ByteDance.
  • getseedream.com says it is "not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by ByteDance". Its terms say it's operated by VIFE Inc. and runs ByteDance's Seedream 4.5 and 4.0 through a model API; the site says Seedream 5.0 isn't available there and that signing up gives no free credits.
  • seedream6.app sells what its page title calls "Bytedance Seedream 6.0 Model", but ByteDance Seed's site lists no Seedream 6, and the home page doesn't name who runs it. Its Terms of Service link led to a missing page when we checked on November 7.

We aren't saying what these sites do with your money or data; we're saying they aren't ByteDance, so their "free Seedream" isn't ByteDance's offer. The official domains are short:

  • seed.bytedance.com: ByteDance Seed, the team that makes Seedream.
  • dreamina.capcut.com and capcut.com: Dreamina and CapCut.
  • byteplus.com, ai.byteplus.com and docs.byteplus.com: the API.

Platforms like Higgsfield that offer Seedream next to other models are separate companies, not ByteDance.

Which way should you use Seedream?

  • Just trying it: Dreamina's free credits. Start on Seedream 5.0 Lite, then read Pro's credit quote before you rely on it.
  • One character across many images: in our same-face test, Seedream 5.0 Pro kept one face in 6 of 8 new scenes, against 4 for Nano Banana 2. That's paid territory: the test ran on Higgsfield at 2.5 credits an image.
  • Building an app outside the US: the BytePlus API, at $0.045 per Pro image at 1.5K, with first-purchase packs for new customers.
  • Building an app in the US: BytePlus isn't an option, so you need another API provider that offers Seedream; we haven't checked those.
  • Client work or ads: a paid route whose terms you've read. Dreamina's free tier is the wrong place for it.
  • Seedream next to other models: a platform like Higgsfield, where Plus and Ultra add a week of Unlimited Seedream 5.0 Pro at 2K.

Verdict

Free to try, Lite for sure

Seedream is free to try, not free to rely on. Dreamina's 120 daily credits buy US accounts roughly 20 Seedream 5.0 Lite images, with visible markings and terms that lean non-commercial, and whether they reach Seedream 5.0 Pro depends on which Dreamina page you believe, so read the credit quote. Pay when you need Pro every day, clean files or clear commercial rights: per image on BytePlus outside the US, or on a platform like Higgsfield if you also want other models.

Best for: Anyone looking for a free or cheap way to use Seedream 5.0

Frequently asked

Is Seedream free?
Partly. Dreamina, ByteDance's CapCut AI studio, gives US free accounts 120 credits a day, and its cost guide lists Seedream 5.0 Lite for free accounts. One 2K Lite image used 6 credits in Dreamina's own test, about 20 a day by our arithmetic. Whether the free credits reach Seedream 5.0 Pro is unclear, because Dreamina's pages disagree (read Nov 7, 2026).
Is Seedream 5.0 Pro free?
Maybe, on Dreamina. Its Seedream 5.0 Pro page says the free daily credits can be used for Pro, while its cost guide and free-credits guide name Seedream 5.0 Lite, not Pro, for free accounts, and the cost guide says premium models are separate. Pick Pro in Dreamina and read the credit quote before you generate. The BytePlus API and Higgsfield charge for every Pro image.
How many free Seedream images do you get a day?
Dreamina doesn't publish an image count. US free accounts get 120 credits a day, and one 2K Seedream 5.0 Lite image used 6 credits in Dreamina's own free-account test, so about 20 Lite images a day at that setting, by our arithmetic. Other regions get different allowances.
Is the Seedream API free?
Not per image. BytePlus ModelArk charges $0.045 per Seedream 5.0 Pro image up to 1.5K and $0.09 above, $0.018 for 5.0 Flash and $0.035 for 5.0 Lite (Nov 7, 2026). Only uploaded reference images are listed as free, and its new-user trial offsets token-billed fees. BytePlus isn't available in the US.
How much does Seedream cost on Higgsfield?
1.25 credits per Seedream 5.0 Pro image at 1K or 1.5K and 2.5 at 2K, 0.5 for 5.0 Flash and 1 for 5.0 Lite, per the Generate button on Nov 7, 2026 (signed out). On monthly Plus ($59 for 1,200 credits) a 2K Pro image comes to about $0.12, by our arithmetic. Plus and Ultra also list 7 days of Unlimited Seedream 5.0 Pro at 2K.
Do free Seedream images have a watermark?
On Dreamina, yes: paid plans add watermark-free downloads, and the free file in Dreamina's own test kept visible AI and Dreamina markings. On a free Higgsfield account every generation is watermarked. The BytePlus API adds an AI-generated mark by default, which developers can turn off.
Can I use free Seedream images commercially?
Not safely on Dreamina's free tier. Its terms say the service is generally for private, non-commercial use, though its Seedream 5.0 Lite page says Lite images can be used commercially and its pricing page says it depends on the terms. Higgsfield's help center says it doesn't restrict commercial use of outputs for any user, but free Higgsfield outputs are watermarked.
Is seedream.ai the official Seedream website?
No. ByteDance's Seedream pages are on seed.bytedance.com, with Dreamina at dreamina.capcut.com and the API at byteplus.com. seedream.ai says it is an independent product, and getseedream.com says it isn't affiliated with ByteDance.
Is Seedream the same as Seedance?
No. Both come from ByteDance's Seed team, but Seedream makes images and Seedance makes video, and each has its own price on Dreamina, BytePlus and Higgsfield.
Is there a Seedream 6?
Not from ByteDance, as of Nov 7, 2026. ByteDance Seed's site lists Seedream 5.0 Pro as its image model, and Dreamina lists a Seedream 5.5. Sites advertising a "Bytedance Seedream 6.0", such as seedream6.app, aren't ByteDance domains.

The short version: Seedream is free to try on Dreamina, Lite for certain and Pro if your credit quote says so; real use means BytePlus outside the US or a paid platform. Weighing Higgsfield's own free tier too? See is Higgsfield free, and everything we've checked about Higgsfield is on one page.
