What should you use instead of Nano Banana Pro? It depends on why you're leaving, and for the two most common reasons, cost and daily limits, the first answer is another Google model. Nano Banana 2.1, Google's update to Nano Banana 2, costs $0.0336 per 1K image on Google's Gemini API against $0.134 for Pro, a quarter of the price, and Google Flow gives accounts without a plan up to 400 of them a day (shared with Nano Banana 2 Lite) against 20 for Pro. For faces, text, refusals or running a model on your own GPU, the answer changes, and that's what the rest of this page sorts out. Every price was read on the maker's own page or on Higgsfield's Generate button on November 7, 2026, and every "best at" line is the maker's claim unless we say it's our test.
Why are you leaving Nano Banana Pro? Start with the reason
The reason decides the alternative, and the first one isn't really about the model.
It costs too much. On Google's Gemini API, Pro is $0.134 per 1K or 2K image and $0.24 at 4K, with no free tier. Where you pay matters as much as what you use: on Higgsfield, Pro costs 2 credits at 1K or 2K, which works out cheaper than Google's own API on the Plus and Ultra plans (the cost section below has the arithmetic). If you pay Google per image, Nano Banana 2.1 is the same maker at a quarter of the price.
You hit the daily limit. Google Flow's help page caps Pro at 20 images a day without a Google AI plan, 100 on Google AI Plus and Pro, and 500 on Ultra, while Nano Banana 2.1 and Nano Banana 2 Lite share up to 400 a day without a plan. In the Gemini app, free accounts make images with Nano Banana 2, and Pro is a paid-plan redo. Where Nano Banana Pro is free, and what each Google plan allows has every limit.
It refuses your prompt. Every hosted model filters prompts, so switching changes which filter you meet, not whether there is one. Google Flow doesn't count a blocked image against your daily limit, ByteDance's BytePlus API doesn't bill images it blocks, and OpenAI's API lets developers choose a less restrictive moderation setting. Open weights don't remove the rules either: the FLUX.2 [dev] licence requires filters or manual review.
The face drifts between images. Google's own page says Pro's character consistency may not always hold. In our eight-scene test, Seedream 5.0 Pro kept every checked detail of one face more often than Nano Banana 2, and Higgsfield's own Soul model is built around a trained, reusable face.
The text comes out wrong. Google pitches Pro on clear text, but its own limitations list says it "can still struggle with small faces, accurate spelling, and fine details in images" (Nano Banana Pro page, read Nov 7). GPT Image, Seedream 5.0 Pro, Qwen-Image and Ideogram all make text claims of their own.
Nano Banana Pro alternatives compared at a glance
Prices come from each maker's own page and from Higgsfield's Generate button, read signed out and without generating anything, on November 7, 2026. "Best at" is each maker's own claim, not our ranking. Several Higgsfield prices were temporary discounts that day, with a higher listed price struck through.

The eight alternatives, one by one
1. Nano Banana 2.1 and Nano Banana 2 (Google): the cheap swap from the same maker
Google's Nano Banana 2 page now introduces Nano Banana 2.1, which it says delivers "better visual design, mask-based editing, subject consistency, and more natural-looking images" than earlier Nano Banana models (Nano Banana 2 page, read Nov 7). Google's API pricing calls 2.1 an update to Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image), and Google's model pages make the same subject-consistency claim for it as for Pro: up to five characters and fourteen objects in one workflow.
Where: the Gemini app (its free image generation uses Nano Banana 2), Google Flow, Google AI Studio and the Gemini API, and Higgsfield, which lists Nano Banana 2.1, Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana 2 Lite next to Pro.
Price from Google: on the Gemini API pricing page, Nano Banana 2.1 is $0.0336 per 1K image, $0.0504 at 2K and $0.113 at 4K, and half that in Batch mode. The older Nano Banana 2 costs twice as much at 1K ($0.067), and Nano Banana 2 Lite matches 2.1 at $0.0336. None of these four has a free API tier.
On Higgsfield: 1.5 credits at 1K for both 2.1 and 2, 2 credits at 2K (Nano Banana 2 shows 2.5 struck through) and 3 at 4K for 2.1. At 2K that's the same 2 credits as Pro, so on Higgsfield the saving is at 1K, and at 4K, where the pricing page lists Pro at 4 credits.
Free option: Google Flow's daily cap for 2.1 and 2 Lite combined is up to 400 images without a plan and up to 1,000 on any Google AI plan, against Pro's 20 without a plan and 100 to 500 with one (read Nov 7).
Watch out: Google lists the same limitations for these models as for Pro, including small faces and spelling. Our face test used Nano Banana 2, not 2.1, and it kept every checked detail in 4 of 8 scenes. On arena.ai's text-to-image leaderboard (dated Nov 6), Nano Banana 2.1 ranked 7th of 84 models and Pro at 2K 18th; 2.1's score is marked preliminary.
Google's Gemini API pricing page (read November 7, 2026): Nano Banana 2.1 at $0.0336 per 1K image. Nano Banana Pro is $0.134 per 1K or 2K image further down the same page. Outline ours. · Screenshot of ai.google.dev by aliteq
2. Seedream 5.0 Pro (ByteDance): faces, realistic skin and dense layouts
ByteDance's Seedream 5.0 Pro page lists four strengths: text-rich infographics, interactive editing that follows spatial annotations and sketches, photographic quality, and native generation in about a dozen languages. On faces it says the model "Recreates authentic physical lighting, shadows, and human skin textures" (read Nov 7). Its July 8 launch post also says it still has room to improve in finer text rendering and pixel-level editing consistency.
Where: ByteDance's Dola app and BytePlus API, Dreamina (CapCut's AI studio), and Higgsfield, where Seedream 5.0 Pro, 5.0 Flash and 5.0 lite are all in the menu.
Price from ByteDance: the BytePlus ModelArk pricing page charges $0.045 per image up to 2.61 million pixels (1.5K or lower) and $0.09 above that. Seedream 5.0 Flash is $0.018 and 5.0 lite $0.035, and images blocked by content moderation aren't billed.
On Higgsfield: 1.25 credits at 1K or 1.5K (1.5 struck through) and 2.5 at 2K (3 struck through). Seedream 5.0 Flash was 0.5 credits and 5.0 lite 1 credit at every resolution we tried. The Plus and Ultra plan cards list a 7-day Unlimited window for Seedream 5.0 Pro at 2K.
Free option: Dreamina's two pages disagree. Its Seedream 5.0 Pro page says you can "access it through the free daily credits provided to each account", while its own cost guide lists Seedream 5.0 Lite for free accounts and says "premium-model access is separate" (both read Nov 7). Check the credit quote in Dreamina before you count on free Pro images.
Watch out: in our test it still drifted on small details: an extra earring in a profile shot and a pendant that turned into a plain loop. And at 2K it costs twice its 1.5K price on BytePlus and on Higgsfield.

3. GPT Image 2.5 and 2.6 (OpenAI): text and precise edits
OpenAI's models page describes GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst as "Our most capable model for image generation and editing" and Flare as its fast everyday sibling, and it now lists GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst and Flare above them (read Nov 7). Its image guide says to choose Sunburst when editing precision matters most. Higgsfield's model guide says GPT Image "handles text rendering and precise color better than most generative models" in its catalogue (its help article on which model to use, dated Aug 2, read Nov 7).
Where: OpenAI's API, and Higgsfield, which lists GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst and Flare, 2.5 Sunburst and Flare, GPT Image 2 and 1.5. ChatGPT makes images too, but its pricing page doesn't say which model.
Price from OpenAI: the API bills tokens, $30 per million image output tokens for both 2.5 models. OpenAI's own cost calculator in its image generation guide put one 1024x1024 image at about $0.013 at medium quality and $0.053 at high, and one 2048x2048 image at $0.027 and $0.107, counting output tokens only.
On Higgsfield: at high quality, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst or Flare was 1.5 credits at 1K (2 struck through), 2.75 at 2K (3 struck through) and 4.25 at 4K. GPT Image 2.6 showed the same 1.5, 2.75 and 4.25 with no discount, and the Plus and Ultra cards list a 7-day Unlimited window for GPT Image 2.6 at 2K. The older GPT Image 2 cost more: 6.5 credits at 2K, high (8.5 listed).
Free option: ChatGPT's pricing page lists "Limited image creation" on the Free plan and gives no number.
Watch out: OpenAI's own limitations list says the models "can still struggle with precise text placement and clarity" and may not keep recurring characters consistent, and complex prompts can take up to two minutes. On the arena, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst ranked 1st, GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst at medium quality 2nd and 2.5 Flare 3rd (Nov 6; all three scores marked preliminary).
4. Higgsfield Soul 2.0: one face, and the cheapest image we priced on Higgsfield
Higgsfield's own model. Its image menu describes Soul 2.0 as "Next generation ultra-realistic fashion visuals", and its model guide says Soul's biggest strength is character consistency: you train a character once as a Soul ID and reuse that face across images. It isn't sold anywhere else.
Price: 0.125 credits an image on the Generate button at both 1.5K and 2K on November 7, and 0.12 on the pricing page's model list. That's 16 times cheaper than Nano Banana Pro's 2 credits.
Free option: the paid plan cards include free Soul generations: 300 on Starter, 3,000 on Plus and 5,000 on Ultra billed monthly, or 5,000 and 10,000 billed yearly (read Nov 7). What a free Higgsfield account gets covers the free tier.
Watch out: it's built for fashion and cinematic photos, not posters or diagrams. Our face test used it only for the reference portrait, and we haven't tested Soul ID. Choosing between the two for portraits? Higgsfield Soul vs Nano Banana Pro compares them job by job.
5. FLUX 3 Image and FLUX.2 (Black Forest Labs): layout control, and open weights
Black Forest Labs pitches FLUX 3 Image on control, including laying out an image exactly with bounding boxes (FLUX 3 Image page, read Nov 7). It's also one of the two families here with open weights you can download, from the 4B FLUX.2 [klein] to the 32B FLUX.2 [dev].
Where: BFL's own API, Higgsfield (FLUX 3 Image, FLUX.2 Pro, Flex and Max, and Flux Kontext Max), and your own GPU for the open models.
Price from BFL: its pricing page lists FLUX 3 Image at $0.048 per 1K image, $0.10 at 2K and $0.607 at 4K, and the open-weight FLUX 3 Image Klein at $0.009 at 1K through BFL's API. FLUX.2 is billed by megapixel: $0.03 for the first one on [pro], $0.07 on [max] and $0.014 on [klein] 4B.
On Higgsfield: FLUX 3 Image was 1 credit at 768p, 2 at 1K or 1.5K, 3 at 2K and 19 at 4K. FLUX.2 Pro was 1 credit at 1K (2K is marked Premium and wasn't selectable signed out), Flex 3 and Max 4.
Free option: the open weights, if you have the GPU. Licences differ by model, so read the next section before you use the images commercially.
Watch out: on the arena, FLUX.2 [max] ranked 30th, [pro] 34th and [dev] 40th (Nov 6), below Nano Banana Pro, 2 and 2.1. Higgsfield's guide pitches FLUX on speed and detail.
6. Qwen-Image (Alibaba's Qwen team): open weights that handle text
The Qwen-Image model card describes a 20B-parameter model with "complex text rendering and precise image editing", strongest at Chinese, released under Apache 2.0. The newer Qwen-Image-2.1, published on Hugging Face in September 2026, has a 7B visual generation part, takes up to 10 reference images and is built to "preserve identity for people and products", but it's under the Qwen Research License, not Apache 2.0 (both read Nov 7).
Where: your own GPU (both cards give diffusers code, and ComfyUI has a Qwen-Image workflow), plus the demos the cards link. It wasn't in Higgsfield's menu on November 7.
Price: we didn't price Alibaba's hosted API for this page.
Watch out: Qwen-Image-2.1 ranked 21st on the arena (preliminary) and the open Qwen-Image 2512 release 47th (Nov 6). Check which licence your version carries before client work.
7. Midjourney V8.2: its own look, sold by GPU time
Midjourney makes its own model and sells it on its own website and Discord. Its Version page says V8.2 became the default on July 24, 2026 and that "V8.2 images are more creative, bold, sophisticated, and edgy." V8.2 also brings a new Edit Model that replaces Character Reference and Omni Reference.
Price: Basic is $10 a month for 3.3 hours (200 minutes) of Fast GPU time, Standard $30 with 15 hours plus unlimited Relax Mode images, Pro $60 and Mega $120, with 20% off billed yearly (plans, read Nov 7). It charges GPU time per prompt, not per image: 0.8 minutes for a standard prompt and 1.3 for an HD one, so Basic covers about 250 standard or 150 HD prompts a month (our arithmetic).
Free option: none on the web. Midjourney's Free Trials page says "No free trial is currently available in Discord or the midjourney.com website." A limited trial runs in the niji·journey phone app.
Watch out: it isn't on Higgsfield, and a company with more than $1,000,000 in gross revenue a year needs the Pro or Mega plan. Higgsfield vs Midjourney for images prices one image on each.
8. Ideogram 4.5: many edits to one image
Ideogram calls 4.5 its most precise editing model and says it stops artifacts building up over repeated edits. Its own side-by-side claims that "GPT Image and Nano Banana outputs become unusable within a few edits" (Ideogram 4.5 page, read Nov 7). That's Ideogram's claim about its competitors, not our finding.
Price from Ideogram: the API charges a fixed price per image whatever the resolution: $0.03 at low quality, $0.06 at medium and $0.10 at high, or $0.22 at high with reference images. In its app, a 4.5 image costs 3, 6 or 10 credits; pay-as-you-go credits are 1 cent each, and Plus is $20 a month ($15 billed yearly) for 2,400 credits (pricing, read Nov 7).
On Higgsfield: 6.25 credits at high quality (1K or 2K), 2 at medium and 1 at low (2K).
Free option: Ideogram's docs say "Free accounts get 30 credits each week" for accounts that sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, and everything a free account makes is public. That's three high-quality 4.5 images a week (our arithmetic).
Watch out: at high quality, Higgsfield's 6.25 credits come to more than Ideogram's own $0.10 on every Higgsfield plan (the table below has the math).
What our face test says, and what it didn't test
On October 27, 2026 we made one fictional woman with Soul 2.0, then gave that single photo to Nano Banana 2 and Seedream 5.0 Pro on Higgsfield with the same eight scene prompts at 2K. We scored every shot on five details from the reference: eye colour, freckles, hair, a mole and her jewellery.
Kept all five details: Seedream 5.0 Pro in 6 of 8 scenes, Nano Banana 2 in 4 of 8.
What drifted: jewellery in side views and freckles in bright light, never the face itself. All 16 shots read as the same woman.
Cost per keeper: Seedream 5.0 Pro cost more per image (2.5 credits against 2) but wasted fewer, so it came to about 3.3 credits per usable shot against 4.
What it didn't test: Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image, FLUX or Soul ID. One run per prompt is a small test, not a ranking.
What does one 2K image cost, the maker's price or Higgsfield credits?
Inside Higgsfield every model is billed in the same credits, so credits per image is the fairest quick comparison. These are Generate-button prices for one image at 2K, read signed out on November 7.

What the table says, plainly. For Nano Banana Pro itself, Higgsfield's 2 credits cost less than Google's own API on Plus and Ultra (on Starter they come to about $0.14). For the cheaper models, Nano Banana 2.1 above all, the maker's own API wins, because Higgsfield charges 2 credits at 2K for 2.1 too. Seedream, GPT Image and FLUX come in close to, or just under, their makers' prices on Ultra billed yearly, and Ideogram costs about two to three times its own API price on Higgsfield. An API also needs code, and Higgsfield's numbers assume you spend every credit in the month. Higgsfield credits explained shows how plans and credits work.
Run it yourself: what GPU the open models need
Two of these makers publish open weights you can download, Black Forest Labs and Alibaba's Qwen team, and BFL's model cards say how much graphics memory (VRAM) each model needs. Running one costs no per-image fee, but it needs a card with enough VRAM, setup time in ComfyUI or Python, and attention to the licence.
FLUX.2 [klein] 4B: the easiest fit. Its model card says it "Runs on consumer GPUs (~13GB VRAM)." and names the RTX 3090 and 4070 as cards that can run it, with open weights for commercial use under Apache 2.0. A 24 GB RTX 3090, with what it runs and what it costs to rent, has room to spare.
FLUX.2 [dev]: 32B, and the licence matters. Its card describes a 32-billion-parameter model and shows a 4-bit quantized setup with a remote text encoder on an RTX 4090. The weights are under BFL's non-commercial licence, though the card says "Generated outputs can be used for personal, scientific, and commercial purposes" as that licence describes.
FLUX 3 Image Klein: a 32 GB card, by BFL's own figures. BFL's page says the 5.6B model "runs on a single consumer GPU". Its model card puts peak GPU memory at 31 GB in BF16, 26 GB in FP8 and 25 GB in NVFP4 at 1024x1024 with the prompt upsampler off, and the upsampler BFL recommends adds about 28 GB. By those figures, a 32 GB RTX 5090 fits the FP8 and NVFP4 versions without the upsampler, and a 24 GB card doesn't with BFL's reference code. Its FLUX Kommunity License allows commercial outputs only for qualifying users with under US$5 million in gross annual revenue.
Qwen-Image: a 24 GB card in fp8. The model card publishes no VRAM figure. ComfyUI's own Qwen-Image tutorial ran the fp8 version on a 24 GB RTX 4090D at 86% of its VRAM, and lists the full bf16 file at 40.9 GB and the fp8 file at 20.4 GB (read Nov 7).

When should you stay on Nano Banana Pro?
More often than "alternatives" lists admit. Check these before you switch:
You pay Google per image. Then the cheapest Nano Banana Pro is often not Google's: 2 credits on Higgsfield work out to about $0.098 on Plus billed monthly and $0.066 on Ultra billed yearly, against $0.134 on the Gemini API (our arithmetic, Nov 7).
You need more Pro images a day. A Google AI plan raises Flow's Pro cap from 20 a day to 100 on Plus and Pro and 500 on Ultra. On Higgsfield, the Ultra plan card and the yearly Plus card list a 7-day Unlimited window for Nano Banana Pro at 2K (monthly Plus doesn't include it), and the pricing page says Unlimited models are "accessible only via higgsfield.ai", not through its MCP, CLI or Canvas. Higgsfield Unlimited explained has the rules.
Your job is what Google built it for. Google pitches Pro on clear text, real-world knowledge and keeping up to five characters and fourteen objects in one workflow. If your images come out right, a cheaper model is only cheaper if it doesn't cost you extra tries.
What we couldn't verify
Quality beyond our one test. We've compared only Nano Banana 2 and Seedream 5.0 Pro, on one face. Every other "best at" line is the maker's claim or Higgsfield's, and the arena ranks reflect public votes, not our judgment.
Nano Banana 2.1 against Pro on faces and text. We haven't run them side by side.
Dreamina and Seedream 5.0 Pro. Dreamina's own pages disagree on whether free credits reach Pro, and we found no Dreamina credit price for one Pro image.
ChatGPT's free image allowance. OpenAI's pricing page calls it limited and gives no number, and doesn't say which image model ChatGPT uses.
Midjourney per image. It sells GPU minutes per prompt, so our per-month prompt counts are arithmetic, not a Midjourney figure.
Qwen-Image's API price and its own VRAM figure. Its model card publishes none, so the VRAM line comes from ComfyUI's tutorial.
Locked settings on Higgsfield. 4K for Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2 and 2K for FLUX.2 Pro were marked Premium signed out; Pro's 4K price of 4 credits is from the pricing page, not the Generate button.
Soul 2.0's exact price. The Generate button showed 0.125 credits and the pricing page 0.12 on the same day.
Verdict
Pick by the reason you're leaving
Don't leave Nano Banana Pro for a list; leave it for a reason. If it's price or daily limits, try Google's own Nano Banana 2.1 first, at a quarter of Pro's API price and 20 times its free daily images in Flow. If one face has to hold across a series, try Seedream 5.0 Pro, or Soul 2.0 with a trained Soul ID. If text is the problem, try GPT Image 2.5. If you'd rather own the pipeline, FLUX.2 [klein] 4B runs on a card with about 13 GB of VRAM. And if Pro's images already come out right, keep it and pay less for it: on Higgsfield's Plus and Ultra plans it costs less per image than on Google's API.

Frequently asked
What is the best alternative to Nano Banana Pro?
It depends on why you're leaving. For cost and daily limits, Google's own Nano Banana 2.1 costs $0.0336 per 1K image on the Gemini API against $0.134 for Pro, and Google Flow gives up to 400 a day free (shared with Nano Banana 2 Lite) against 20 for Pro (read Nov 7, 2026). For one face across many scenes, Seedream 5.0 Pro kept our test character in 6 of 8 scenes against 4 for Nano Banana 2. For text in images, GPT Image 2.5, which Higgsfield's model guide recommends for readable text and which ranked first overall on arena.ai's text-to-image leaderboard on Nov 6, 2026.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Nano Banana Pro?
Yes. On Google's own API, Nano Banana 2.1 and Nano Banana 2 Lite cost $0.0336 per 1K image against $0.134 for Pro, and ByteDance's Seedream 5.0 Pro costs $0.045 up to 1.5K on BytePlus (all read Nov 7, 2026). On Higgsfield, Soul 2.0 costs about 0.12 credits an image against 2 for Pro. Pro itself can also cost less on Higgsfield than on Google's API: 2 credits come to about $0.066 to $0.098 on the Ultra and Plus plans, by our arithmetic.
What is a free alternative to Nano Banana Pro?
Google Flow's Nano Banana 2.1 and Nano Banana 2 Lite, up to 400 images a day combined without a Google AI plan, and the free Gemini app, which makes images with Nano Banana 2. Ideogram gives free accounts that sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft 30 credits a week, and ChatGPT's Free plan includes limited image creation. Open-weight models such as FLUX.2 [klein] 4B are free to run on your own GPU.
Which Nano Banana Pro alternative keeps the same face best?
In our Oct 27, 2026 test, Seedream 5.0 Pro kept all five checked details of one face in 6 of 8 new scenes, against 4 of 8 for Nano Banana 2. We didn't test Nano Banana Pro itself. Higgsfield says its Soul model's biggest strength is character consistency through a trained Soul ID, which we haven't tested.
Which alternative is best for text in images?
By the makers' and Higgsfield's own claims, GPT Image: Higgsfield's model guide says it handles text rendering better than most models in its catalogue, and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst ranked first overall on arena.ai's text-to-image leaderboard on Nov 6, 2026, a general preference vote rather than a text test. Seedream 5.0 Pro, Qwen-Image and Ideogram also make text claims. Google itself says Nano Banana Pro can still struggle with accurate spelling. We haven't tested text rendering.
Can I run a Nano Banana Pro alternative on my own GPU?
Not Nano Banana itself, which is Google-only, but several open-weight models. FLUX.2 [klein] 4B needs about 13 GB of VRAM and is Apache 2.0, per its model card. FLUX 3 Image Klein peaks at 25 to 31 GB in BFL's reference code with its prompt upsampler off, and Qwen-Image's fp8 version used 86% of a 24 GB card in ComfyUI's tutorial (read Nov 7, 2026). Without a card, you can rent one by the hour.
Is Nano Banana 2.1 better than Nano Banana Pro?
Google says 2.1 outperforms previous Nano Banana models on visual design, editing and subject consistency, and on arena.ai's blind-vote leaderboard (Nov 6, 2026) it ranked 7th against Pro's 18th, with 2.1's score marked preliminary. It's also a quarter of Pro's 1K price on Google's API. We haven't compared them ourselves.
Is Midjourney on Higgsfield?
No. Midjourney wasn't in Higgsfield's image model menu on Nov 7, 2026; it sells its own model on midjourney.com and Discord, from $10 a month for 200 minutes of Fast GPU time, with no free trial on either.
