HeyGen is our pick for talking-head video: about $1.50 a finished minute on its $29 Creator plan, 175+ languages, videos up to 30 minutes, and a recorded consent step. Synthesia is close behind. Arcads is built for ad actors; Higgsfield fits when the presenter is one part of a bigger job.

The best AI avatar video generator for talking-head video is HeyGen, because it makes a finished minute for about $1.50 on its $29 Creator plan, speaks 175+ languages and dialects, and runs videos up to 30 minutes. Synthesia is the close second, at about $1.58 a minute on its $19 Starter plan with a free 10 minutes a month to try it. Arcads is the specialist for ad-style AI actors. Higgsfield, which we usually recommend for AI video, isn't the cheapest here: its lowest-cost lip-sync route works out to about $5.31 a minute on monthly Plus, so it makes sense only when the presenter is one part of a bigger creative job. All four make you vouch for consent before they put a real person's face in a video. Prices and terms read on each company's own pages, most recently November 8, 2026.

Price per finished minute is our arithmetic: plan price divided by plan credits or minutes, assuming you use the whole month and get each take right first time. HeyGen's per-minute credit rates are from its credits help article (read October 26); Higgsfield's figure uses Lipsync Studio's default Wan 2.5 Speak Fast model at 18 credits per 10-second 720p take, so 108 a minute, on Plus at 1,200 credits. What does a finished avatar minute cost?
One finished minute of talking avatar video, cheapest plan, no retakes (our arithmetic, Oct 26 to Nov 8, 2026)
Higgsfield Lipsync Studio, Plus monthlyabout $5.31
108 credits at $59 for 1,200
Arcads is missing because it publishes no dollar price outside its app, but its flat rate changes the maths for ads: 800 credits buys a talking-actor video up to 2 minutes, so a 30-second ad and a 2-minute ad cost the same, about ten videos on the 8,000-credit Starter.
What each cheapest plan buys in 30-second talking videos a month, from our October 26, 2026 comparison. Speak 2.0 is a pricier Higgsfield route than the Lipsync Studio default used in the bars above. · aliteq research
Two things push real costs up. Retakes: HeyGen says it charges "only for the actual seconds of avatar generation", but a take you redo still counts, and Higgsfield charges every take. Plan fit: HeyGen's Avatar V, its newest engine, comes "with limited usage" on Creator, so a heavy Avatar V user may need Pro ($49 a month for 1,000 credits, with 4K export).
Which avatar tool has the most minutes and languages?
Minutes. HeyGen Creator's 600 credits are about 19 minutes a month with the video look or 37 with the photo look, and each video can run to 30 minutes. Synthesia Starter lists "up to ~12 min" a month, or "up to ~150 min" a year on the yearly plan. Higgsfield Plus covers about 11 minutes on Lipsync Studio's default model; Kling Avatars 2.0 there is listed with takes up to 5 minutes, but it's a Premium model whose price we couldn't read signed out.
Languages. HeyGen lists "175+ languages and dialects" on Creator (30+ on Free). Synthesia's page says "over 140 languages and voices", with dubbing in 70+ on Starter. Arcads advertises "more than 30 languages". Higgsfield's AI Talking Avatar page says it "dubs the same avatar into 18 languages".

Do free AI avatar videos have a watermark?
Yes, on every free tier we read. HeyGen Free makes "3 videos a month, watermarked", each up to a minute. Synthesia Basic says "Videos carry a Synthesia watermark". Higgsfield's help center says every free-account generation carries its watermark, and paid plans don't add one; the Higgsfield watermark guide has the details. Arcads has no free plan, only a 72-hour trial that needs a card and rolls into the Starter plan automatically; its pages we read don't mention a watermark. The cheapest way to a clean file is HeyGen Creator or Synthesia Starter, whose first month is $9.
What consent do you need to make an avatar of yourself or someone else?
At HeyGen and Synthesia, the person whose face it is has to agree on camera; at Higgsfield, you sign for it.
HeyGen. Its help center says that "for every video-based Digital Twin created, users must record a short consent video before creating their avatar." If the avatar is of someone else, "that person must record their own consent video", reading HeyGen's consent text exactly as written, in under 30 seconds, and it has to be the same person as in the avatar footage.
Synthesia. Its personal-avatar article says "consent footage must be recorded live" with an on-screen passcode, that uploaded consent footage isn't accepted, and that "the person represented by the avatar must record their own consent video." Enterprise accounts can send avatar requests to people without Synthesia accounts.
Higgsfield. There's no recording step we know of; instead, section 5.3 of its Terms says that when you upload a face or voice, you warrant that "you have obtained all consents, releases, and permissions required under applicable law from each individual". Its talking-avatar page offers your cloned voice "with your consent".

Arcads. Its help center says a custom actor can be made from a single headshot; we didn't read its consent rules.
Two more rules apply whatever tool you use. If the avatar speaks in an ad, the FTC's rule on fake reviews bans testimonials that "misrepresent that they are by someone who does not exist", naming AI-generated fake reviews: an AI presenter can explain a product, not claim to be a customer. And training: HeyGen's terms say you own your inputs and outputs, but the licence you grant includes training its models; Higgsfield's Terms say the same of your uploads outside Enterprise. Your face is an upload. Our Higgsfield vs HeyGen vs Arcads comparison covers who can hand the rights to a client.
Which AI avatar video generator should you use?
Explainers, training, product walk-throughs, many languages: HeyGen Creator. Cheapest per minute, longest videos, the widest language list.
Trying before paying, or a team that likes a course-style editor: Synthesia, whose free plan gives 10 watermarked minutes a month and whose Starter is $9 for the first month.
Lots of short UGC-style ad variations with stock actors: Arcads, whose flat price covers any video up to 2 minutes. Its licence is "non-exclusive, personal and non-transferable", so check that against a client contract.
A presenter inside a bigger creative job (product shots, b-roll, cut-aways): Higgsfield, where the avatar shares one credit plan with everything else; Higgsfield plans compared shows what each plan includes. Our walk-through of making a talking avatar on Higgsfield shows the steps and per-minute credits; for avatar ads made from a product link, see Higgsfield UGC ads.
The best AI video generator for other jobs
Each page below answers one job from the same checked facts. All of them, grouped by job, are in our best AI video generator guide.
Best AI video generator for ads: A paid Higgsfield plan: its terms allow ads and client handover; Kling 3.0 tests a 5-second hook in any shape for 10 credits.
Best free AI video generator: Google Flow's 50 daily credits are the biggest free allowance; Dreamina's 120 a day is the US runner-up.
What we couldn't verify
Output quality. We haven't made avatar videos on any of these tools; nothing here judges lip-sync or realism.
Synthesia's maximum video length, commercial terms and training rules. They weren't on the pricing page, and we didn't read its terms.
Whether Synthesia Starter's "up to ~12 min" is on top of the 10 free minutes. The page doesn't say.
Arcads' dollar prices, watermark and consent rules. Prices are shown only inside its app.
HeyGen's Avatar V usage on Creator. The page says "limited usage" without a number.

Verdict
HeyGen for talking heads
For talking-head avatar video, HeyGen is the pick: about $1.50 a finished minute on Creator with the video look, 175+ languages, videos up to 30 minutes, and a consent video recorded by the person before any custom avatar. Synthesia is a close second with the best free allowance. Arcads suits ad-actor variations. Higgsfield costs more per talking minute; choose it when the avatar is one piece of a project that also needs product shots and b-roll.

Questions about AI avatar video
What is the best AI avatar video generator?
For talking-head video, HeyGen: its $29 Creator plan makes a finished minute for about $1.50 with Avatar IV's video look, lists 175+ languages and dialects and allows videos up to 30 minutes (read Nov 8, 2026). Synthesia is close at about $1.58 a minute on Starter.
Is there a free AI avatar video generator without a watermark?
Not among these four. HeyGen Free gives 3 watermarked one-minute videos a month, Synthesia Basic 10 watermarked minutes a month, and Higgsfield's free plan watermarks every file. Arcads has a 72-hour trial instead of a free plan.
How much does an AI avatar video cost per minute?
About $0.77 to $1.50 on HeyGen Creator depending on the avatar look, about $1.58 on Synthesia Starter monthly, and about $5.31 on Higgsfield Plus monthly with its cheapest lip-sync model, by our arithmetic from Nov 2026 prices. Retakes add to all of them.
Can I make an AI avatar of myself?
Yes. HeyGen includes a custom video avatar of your own likeness on Creator, and Synthesia includes 3 personal avatars on Starter. Both require a consent video recorded by the person in the avatar; Synthesia requires it live.
Can I make an AI avatar of someone else?
Only with their consent. HeyGen says that person must record their own consent video, Synthesia says the person represented must record their own live consent, and Higgsfield's Terms make you warrant you have every consent the law requires.
Which AI avatar tool is best for ads?
Arcads is built for UGC-style ad actors, at 800 credits per video up to 2 minutes. Whatever you use, the FTC bans testimonials from people who don't exist, so an AI presenter can explain the product but not pose as a customer.
